The Day - Norwich police civilian complaints vary in issues raised - News from southeastern Connecticut

Norwich  In the early morning hours of May 3, resident Cheyne Ordonio called police after a distraught woman jumped into the road toward his and other cars, yelling at drivers. About 45 minutes later, he saw the woman again as he went into a nearby gas station to buy coffee. Fearing she could be suicidal, he went looking for her and eventually found her at 4 a.m. lying on the wet ground near a roadside creek. Ordonio called 911 again and told the woman he would not leave her alone. The dispatcher told him police did check on the woman earlier, and she was fine.

The Day - Norwich man felt racially profiled in 2018 police stops - News from southeastern Connecticut

Norwich  When he filed a three-part complaint with city police in May 2018, resident Teairez Stennis Atunbi told police he grew up in East St. Louis amid repeated incidents of police racial profiling. Atunbi, formerly Stennis before he changed his name in July, called East St. Louis “a real warzone” in his written complaints, but after being pulled over by Norwich police several times, he said he might have felt safer there. “Since moving to Norwich, I’ve been pulled over repeatedly for what seems to be suspicion,” he wrote. The complaints began on May 13, 2018, when officer Michael Lax was parked in a spot to observe activity in the McDonald’s Restaurant parking lot in Norwichtown. Atunbi was parked there in a Cadillac Escalade and a friend arrived in a Toyota. After a few minutes, the Toyota pulled out. Lax followed the vehicle and pulled over the female driver for speeding.
