Roslyn Hurley, who is nationally recognised as the voice of disabled persons, is one of three individuals dubbed heroes by the Rotary Club of Barbados South during the current coronavirus crisis.
Hurley’s longstanding work to gain acceptance and recognition of persons with disabilities was rewarded recently with an annual Vocation Service Award during an online ceremony held by the service organisation.
The Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) was also presented with a Vocation Service Award.
As a former President of the Barbados National Organisation of the Disabled (BARNOD) and now Special Envoy for people with disabilities, Hurley has represented the rights of disabled persons and in designing programmes for them locally and in regional and international forums.
Variety brings Easter cheer for kids at Harrison’s Point
Article by April 7, 2021
Children in insolation for COVID-19 were treated to kite-flying over the Easter weekend, through Variety – The Children’s Charity. A donation of 14 kites was made to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Corey Forde last Thursday for the children in tertiary care at Harrison’s Point.
Dr. Forde expressed his gratitude for the kites presented, which he said would provide an absolute thrill for the children.
“Easter is certainly a period of giving and sharing and during this difficult period of COVID, Variety has stepped in to help us at Harrison’s Point as we create a period of activities for all the residents at the facilities. They have donated a variety of beautiful kites and on presentation of these kites I am absolutely sure that the children are going to be thrilled by this,” Dr. Forde said last week.

From humble beginnings growing up in the working-class area of Jackson, St Michael, Dr Corey Forde has become one of the most prominent figures and faces in Barbados’ COVID-19 battle.
The island’s lone infectious disease specialist, who is National Co-ordinator of Isolation Facilities for COVID-19 Management in Barbados, stands tall in his field.
Modesty shrouds the remarkable achievements of the former student of Sharon Primary School and the Alleyne School, who always wanted to be a doctor – a lofty aspiration, given the modest circumstances in which he was raised by working- class grandparents after losing his mother.
