AAA Implementing a 2019 circular issued by the then Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore City Police have introduced ‘investigation wings’ at all the 15 police stations.
The new arrangement which came into effect on Monday has done away with the nomenclature ‘crime station’.
For example, henceforth, the Kattoor police station at Gandhipuram will not be known separately as Kattoor Law and Order station and Kattoor Crime station. Instead, the Law and Order station will have an investigation wing which will investigate all cases registered under Sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Coimbatore City Police have implemented the new directive of the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, which said that 20 % of the force be given a day of rest.
Police Commissioner Deepak M. Damor implemented the new arrangement which allows 20 % of the total police force in the city to take rest every day. The holiday is granted on rotation.
There are around 2,500 police personnel including officers, those attached to law and order stations, crime stations, traffic stations and the Armed Reserve (City) in Coimbatore city.

Police personnel in charge of beat patrols at each police station started visiting senior citizens from Monday.
Many elderly couples, who stay alone in Coimbatore city, had unusual visitors who knocked on their doors in the last two days and checked whether they wanted any assistance.
Thanks to the new initiative by City Police Commissioner Deepak M. Damor who instructed all the 15 police stations in Coimbatore city to visit elderly persons and couples who live alone and ensure that they do not have any struggle during the intense lockdown.

Western region largely saw stringent enforcing of restrictions on Monday, day one of the intense one-week lockdown announced by the State Government to control COVID-19.
Barring banks, pharmacies and milk outlets, other establishments remained closed. Stringent checks were done at inter-State and inter-district borders. Only those in medical emergency were allowed to cross the border.
