AAA Coimbatore Corporation conservancy workers attempted a protest in front the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday to condemn the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board for delaying allotment of houses to them.
The workers, who came to the Collectorate to submit a petition at the weekly grievances redress meeting on Monday, said the board was yet to allot the houses even three years after they registered under the Prime Minister Housing For All scheme.
The petitioners said 241 workers’ families had not benefited from the scheme, and threatened to boycott the election if the houses were not allotted soon.

Party workers stage protests in Coimbatore and Tiruppur
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) workers staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore and Tiruppur Collectorates on Friday demanding 20% reservation for Vanniyars in government jobs and education institutions.
In Coimbatore, the protest was led by the party’s youth wing deputy secretary Ashok Srinithi. Around 100 cadre marched from the Thandu Mariamman temple on Avinashi Road to the Collectorate.
As the Coimbatore City Police stopped them in front of the Collectorate, the cadre raised slogans demanding 20% reservation within the MBC quota for Vanniyars. The protest was in response to a call given by the PMK leadership for a State-wide protest to highlight the demand.

Forest Department officials on Friday found the body of a man who was killed by an elephant near Narasipuram in Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore District Police sources said the man Karthi (47), a resident of Selvapuram in the Coimbatore City Police limits, is believed to have visited a temple near a reserve forest near Narasipuram, Pooluvapatti Forest Range, on Thursday evening, when he was attacked by a lone tusker. He suffered injuries and died on the spot. The body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for an autopsy on Friday and Alandurai police have registered a case.
