Police in a major Cobb County city have reported that a major route has reopened following an accident with injuries that had been under investigation for hours. Smyrna Police reported around 6 p.m. that their Select Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit was investigating a serious injury crash on Cobb Parkway (U.S. Highway 41) just south of Lake Park Drive. The crash and resulting investigation had north and southbound routes of Cobb Parkway shut down in the area with reopening initially not expected until around 10 p.m.

11 Marietta, Cobb fire units respond to apartment fire on Windy Hill Road

A fire in Marietta displaced residents of eight apartments on New Year’s Day, including a dog and a pair of pet turtles. According to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, 11 emergency units, including some from the Marietta Fire Department, responded to the fire at Westminster Square, 2401 Windy Hill Road SE. The apartments are near the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Cobb Parkway and are about 2.5 miles south of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Several residents were assessed for smoke inhalation, but none were taken to a hospital, according to an email from Nick Danz, a spokesperson for Cobb Fire and Emergency Services.

Seaman Myles Bernard Crawford, age 20, transitioned from this world on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Myles was born on July 4, 2000 in Kennesaw, Georgia to Shana and William Penn Crawford III. Myles was the youngest child born to the Crawfords. Myles graduated from Sprayberry High School in May 2018. During his high school years, he was a member of the Sprayberry ROTC and played on the Freshman and Junior Varsity Basketball Teams. During the off season, he enjoyed playing AAU basketball. Small but mighty on the court, he was a force to be reckoned with. Shortly after graduation, Myles enlisted in the United States Navy. He graduated from boot camp in March 2019 and was then commissioned onto the USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119). Myles was a gentle soul who never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family and was happiest when he was with them for Sunday dinner at grandma s house. He lived life on his terms and was a leader among his peers.
