Device saves drowning man at YMCA pool
A man who went into cardiac arrest while swimming at a YMCA pool in Cobb County is crediting a device with saving him from drowning as a result.
COBB COUNTY, Ga - Gary Phillips was swimming laps at the Northwest Cobb YMCA. I think I was on lap eight. I felt a twinge in my heart and thought this is a heck of a place to have a heart attack, said Phillips.
He blacked out and sunk to the bottom of the pool. Alarms started going off.
A fire in Marietta displaced residents of eight apartments on New Yearâs Day, including a dog and a pair of pet turtles.
According to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, 11 emergency units, including some from the Marietta Fire Department, responded to the fire at Westminster Square, 2401 Windy Hill Road SE.
The apartments are near the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Cobb Parkway and are about 2.5 miles south of Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
Several residents were assessed for smoke inhalation, but none were taken to a hospital, according to an email from Nick Danz, a spokesperson for Cobb Fire and Emergency Services.
Investigators are looking for someone they say is responsible for a series of arsons in a Vinings apartment complex.
According to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, seven fires were intentionally set at WestHaven at Vinings, on Paces Walk off Cumberland Parkway. Nick Danz, spokesman for Cobb Fire, told the MDJ the fires were all in the same breezeway on the upper and lower floors of a building at the complex.
