A ROADBLOCK blamed for rat run woes in Acklam will be removed in the New Year. The junction at Church Lane and St Mary’s Walk was closed in late October in response to worries over traffic levels and road safety. But the roadblock sparked outcry on Coniston Grove – with anger over drivers using side streets as a cut-through between Green Lane and Acklam Road. Now Middlesbrough Council highways chiefs have written to residents confirming the roadblock will be lifted in early January. It is understood the temporary bollards are set to be taken out on January 2. Cllr Sheila Dean, ward member for Acklam, said she was “ecstatic” with the move.
