KING John’s Castle reopens to the public today for the first time in 2021 following the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.
Initially, the landmark tourist attraction will be open for four days a week, before moving to seven days a week from May 31.
To mark the reopening, exciting new outdoor elements have been added to the castle courtyard.

An Bord Pleanala rejects proposal for Limerick housing estate

AN Bord Pleanala has turned down controversial proposals to build 21 homes in Corbally after almost 100 people objected to it.
Rocktop Asset Management Limited had sought planning permission to build the homes just off the Mill Road at Woodlands.
These would have been in a mix of three, four-bed detached homes, 12 semi-detatched homes and six three-bed semi-detached units.
Also included in the plan were all associated site works, including re-alignment of site boundary walls and public footpath along Mill Road to accommodate the proposed development.
But 98 people wrote to the council expressing their concerns over the proposal, and Limerick City and County Council planners decided to turn the plans down last July.

KING John’s Castle will re-open to the public next Thursday, May 20, it has been confirmed.

FEARS have been raised those “on the fence” about getting the Covid-19 injection might avoid the effort of going to Limerick’s vaccination centre.
The Radisson Blu Hotel at the Ennis Road is the sole facility for mass-vaccinations for the whole county, and complaints have been made about how those without their own vehicle struggle to get out there under their own steam.
Already, more than 50,000 people across the region have received their first inoculation against coronavirus, with that number to be ramped up in the coming weeks.
