The highest rate is recorded in Gort-Kinvara – where there are 123 cases per 100 thousand people, compared to the national average of 134. Next is Tuam at 120, Loughrea at 99, Galway City East at 98, Galway City Centre at 94, Ballinasloe at 92, Athenry-Oranmore at 85, Connemara South at 66, and Galway City West at 43. Meanwhile, there are less than 5 cases per 100 thousand people in Connemara North. Nationally, Milford in Co Donegal once again has the highest 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 in the country – over five times the national average.

The figure for Tuam local electoral area is 172 per 100 thousand people, while the figure for Galway City East is 158. That compares to a national average of 132 per 100 thousand. Meanwhile, Ballinasloe is 124, Athenry-Oranmore is 97, Galway City Central is 86, Galway City West is 47, and Gort-Kinvara is 34. Loughrea, Connemara North, and Connemara South all have less than 5 cases per 100 thousand people. Details on other areas of the country On Monday, the country’s 14-day incidence rate was 132 cases per 100,000 people.

Galway Bay FM 21 February 2021 print Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The local electoral areas of Galway City Central and Galway City East are in the top five of areas affected by Covid 19 according to latest figures released by the HSE and the central statistics Office. Figures released this week saw the areas ranked first and fourth respectively in the top five areas with the worst incidence rate of Covid 19 per 100,000 population.   The Local Electoral Area of Galway city centre had 254 new cases in the previous fortnight up to last Monday making it the worst-affected region in the country with a rate of 951.2 while Galway City East had a rate of 579.1 ranking it 4th following 154 new cases.

The district has a 14 day incidence rate of 1099.7 with 365 cases recorded over the last fortnight. The lowest infection rate has been recorded in Connemara North. After Tuam, Gort-Kinvara has a 14 day incidence rate of 812.6 with 191 cases in the last fortnight. Galway City East has the third highest rate in the county at 797.1. This is followed by Galway City Central at 685.3 and Ballinasloe electoral area with a rate of 576.3.
