New Castle County police on Saturday night identified the 25-year-old woman shot and killed early Saturday morning in Claymont as Tanasia Rollins-Townsend.
Police said officers responded to Third Avenue in the community of Overlook Colony around 12:30 a.m.
They located Rollins-Townsend at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.
No other information about the incident was available, and police did not provide information about a potential suspect.
Col. Vaughn Bond, the county s chief of police, urged potential witnesses to come forward.
