Summer Bible camps often employ a theme or center themselves around a particular activity each year.
But what about a summer Bible camp where participants duke it out on the field of battle with foam swords, spears and shields?
Enter Push the Rock’s Stronghold Foam Sword Fighting Ministries, which will host a foam sword-fighting camp July 19-23 at Murrysville’s Sardis Park.
“I would’ve loved to have this camp when I was growing up,” said Stephen Ippolito, who along with his wife, Janeen, developed the Stronghold foam sword-fighting ministry about 12 years ago.
“We had both done it in college, and we did some after-school programs when we were both working as school teachers,” Ippolito said. “We enjoyed it a lot and after we graduated, I decided I wanted to do it as a youth ministry.”
Set for July 23-25, the conference is free and open to the public.
Church pastor Joshua White said though this is the first time the church has held the event, he hopes to make it an annual endeavor.
ââOur main objective and hope for this conference is, first and foremost, that our God would be glorified in and through the Lord Jesus Christ,â he said. âOur hope and prayer is that God would use the faithful preaching of Godâs word and the prayers of his saints to bless his people and transform the lives of sinners in our community.â
