Please join a coalition of environmental, Tribal, fishing and environmental justice groups on Tuesday, February 2 to urge the State Water Resources Control Board to adopt and implement new flow standards. More flow is needed to protect the fish and wildlife in the Bay-Delta ecosystem and the rivers that flow into it – including the salmon runs that support salmon fishing jobs from Morro Bay to Fisherman’s Wharf and into Oregon.

The State Board has been paralyzed for years. We need strong public support to get them to do their job.
Whatâs Biting⦠close by? Dave Hurleyâs Hot Sheet points out why Berryessa is a good fishing water â lots of different varieties to target. Spots provide something for everybody â kokanee and king salmon, trout, largemouth bass and smallies. Over the years, we have fished from the bank and boats, covering the whole year.
Here is some Hot Sheet action:

Alan Fong, manager of Sacramentoâs Fishermenâs Warehouse mooched up easy limits of kings for three separate boats last week. He said, âThe mooching technique is similar to what we use in the ocean when the bait schools are thick ⦠when you find the bait, you find the salmon, and the bait fish are moving into different areas. Last week we found them on Shad Raps but this week, it was back to the 3- to 4-inch Gitzits in salt/pepper or chartreuse tipped with a piece of anchovy.â They caught salmon up north at Putah Creek, in Red Canyon and in Skierâs Cove.

REMINDER: Mandatory Cold Weather Life Jacket Wear began on November 1, 2020 and runs through April 30, 2021 for anyone on boats less than 16 feet and in all canoes and kayaks. Learn more here…
REMINDER: Once there is ice on the lakes, be sure to check the thickness and safety before venturing out on the ice. Ice should be clear to be safe, once it thaws, aerates and refreezes it loses its integrity.

Newalla resident Brenton Kernes is steadily building a brand with his focus on private pond fishing in the state.
Kernes, a special operations veteran and former commercial fisherman, spent 2020 providing a service that is unique to not only the state, but the country.
Kernesâ business, Newalla Fish Company, specializes in stocking Oklahoma ponds and lakes with hybrid striped bass and predatory high-protein fish feed. Kernes said Newalla Fish Company is the only business in the U.S. dedicated to recreational hybrid striped bass.
One issue many local pond owners mention is stocking the same breeding fish multiple times often leads to overpopulated ponds, Kernes said.
