The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board has added to its stock of buildings that provide affordable housing. It has bought and is now operating the building on the northwest corner of Spruce Street and Third Avenue, originally the King Edward Hotel.
DSSAB housing development manager Antoine Vezina says that seven affordable housing units were already on the top floor.

The idea of ending chronic homelessness in Timmins by 2025 may seem like a pipe dream.

Marks, who was speaking to a business audience about the Economics of Homelessness during an online event hosted by the Timmins Chamber Wednesday night, said ending homelessness in Timmins is an achievable goal.
But it can’t be accomplished through the efforts of one organization working alone.

The City of Timmins approved its 2021 net expenditure budget Tuesday night, but not before another heated exchange between Ward 3 Coun. Joe Campbell and Mayor George Pirie.
Among other things, Campbell appeared to be upset at the “$43,831,606” figure associated with the 2021 net expenditure budget, suggesting it only tells part of the story of the city’s finances.

“As I mentioned last meeting (Feb. 2 budget meeting), the budget for this city is in the range of $150 million, if you include general taxation, the fees, the service fees and all the grants we get,” he said, after being granted the floor prior to the motion to approve the budget being moved, or seconded.
