Meet the young Croatian chef nominated for Forbes 30 Under 30

Croatian chef Mario Mandarić (Photo: Supplied) Young Croatian chef Mario Mandarić, who has worked in some of the world’s best restaurants, including Heston Blumenthal’s legendary The Fat Duck in Bray, has been nominated for the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30. The list by Forbes magazine recognises leading figures around the world under 30 across various industries. We caught up with Mandarić to find out more about him.  Born in the Dalmatian city of Split, Mandarić grew up in nearby Omiš just down the coast. After dropping out of high school, he decided that a career in the kitchen would be his thing and started to learn the craft in restaurants.

Lakeland, the kitchenware shop, in its annual trends report says that the coffee machine rose from sixth most popular kitchen gadget in 2018 to the No 1 spot last year. Sales of coffee machines were up 22 per cent at John Lewis last year, as more and more consumers tried to recreate cafe cappuccinos and flat whites at home, with Lakeland saying there is no sign of the trend slowing down. Sales of coffee machines and accessories are up 92 per cent in the first two months of this year compared with 2020, according to Lakeland. Customer ambassador Wendy Miranda says: ‘Customers are looking to create the coffee shop experience at home.’

As well as his job as a chef, he has recently become a certified health coach and specialises in conditions like cancer and addiction.
