The new, state-of-the-art Missouri Valley Line Constructors Apprenticeship and Training facility will become a regional hub for electrical workers and linemen, bringing trainees and apprentices from six states to Indianola.
The $13.5 million facilityheld a grand opening ceremony Friday, with well over 250 guests in attendance, according to Robby Foxen, the training program s executive director. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, guests got a chance to tour the facility before it was opened to the public at 3 p.m. The group included electrical work industry professionals from Missouri Valley and others in the industry, like the CEO of the National Electrical Contractors Association and several vice presidents from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Foxen said.

Cy Gregg, a local developer, looked at putting in a hotel on Main Street in Peterborough with his business partner, Stan Fry, as far back as 2011.
The project has been put on the back burner for years, as logistical and financial issues have had the duo put off the hotel prospect in favor of other projects, but it’s a prospect that they continue to talk about, and is still potentially on the table, said Gregg. That’s despite the fact that studies that Fry and Gregg conducted when they were investigating the prospect suggested there might not be enough clientele in the area to guarantee the success of a hotel.

Local Indianola officials were eager to tout the city s economics and upcoming projects to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds as she visited the city on Friday.
Reynolds, along with Lt. Governor Adam Gregg and State Sen. Julian Garrett, toured the Missouri Valley Line Construction training facility with a group of city officials. Robby Foxen, the executive director of the Missouri Valley Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training Program, led them through the facility.
