A world-class simulation training programme developed at
Waikato DHB to help a specialist cardiac unit prepare for
the unexpected is drawing attention across the country and
overseas.
The training sessions for the Cardiac
Catheterisation Laboratory, more commonly known as the Cath
Lab, is the brainchild of Waikato Hospital interventional
cardiologist Dr Madhav Menon who worked alongside with
colleagues from the UK, USA and Australia.
The Cath
Lab focuses on diseases of the heart, arteries, valves and
rhythm. They are minimally invasive procedures like coronary
stents to open blocked arteries, transcatheter valve

An injured great horned owl is on the mend at a Napanee-area wildlife centre after being rescued from the median of Highway 401 near Brockville on Wednesday.

The owl was wrapped in a jacket, tucked in the back seat of a cruiser and ultimately taken to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, where the last report was that it was doing well, the OPP said.

How has the pandemic impacted the nature of your work?
ROB SINCLAIR: I never thought I d become obsolete. I never thought people gathering in rooms and watching people on stage would end. But since then, the process of gradually rebuilding has been quite interesting. Firstly with people performing in isolation, which I thought was really egalitarian. Admittedly, Elton John s house and my house look very different. But the fact that he was stuck at home as well meant there was an innate connection there.
It became apparent quite quickly that we still had an important role to play, too. There were conversations about the simple things that people could do for themselves at home, such as improving their lighting or camera angles. In May we started to talk more seriously about what TV performances might look like and how you could do things remotely.
