Call for improvements to Collooney train station access

Cllr Thomas Walsh has called for safe pedestrian access to be provided to the railway station in Collooney. The Fine Gael councillor tabled a motion at last week s Municipal District meeting for provision of a safe footpath , which he said was vital for rail users. Cllr Walsh, Cathaoirleach of the District, told the meeting he had been contacted by people and residents in the area on the matter, and that the present surface was uneven, disjointed and was holding water. Given the amount of trains passing on the line, and the amount of people boarding or getting off at Collooney, he argued it was important to provide for better pedestrian access.

Ballisodare/Collooney road gets more footpath money

Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy has received confirmation of €200,000 funding to complete the reinstatement of the footpath under the railway bridge linking Collooney and Ballisodare. Following the adoption of my motion on this issue I am delighted to welcome confirmation of this funding under the Climate Change Adaptation works and the Active Travel Scheme. The Council has now confirmed that the contract for these works has been awarded and it is envisaged that the work will be completed by June. This has been a longstanding campaign for local residents and it is very satisfying to witness the huge amounts of people using the first phase of this footpath every day for walking and running.
