SEVEN intrepid staff and students from the University of Cumbria are hiking up England’s second highest mountain today dressed only in Speedo swimwear to raise funds for Every Life Matters and awareness about suicide. This rather offbeat fundraising challenge was inspired primarily by the escalation in mental ill-health across both Cumbria and the UK, exacerbated by the lockdowns we have all endured , Mark Christie, Sports Lecturer at University of Cumbria and the fundraiser organiser, said. “I guess bearing (almost) all may raise a few eyebrows on the way up and down, but we want to let people know that’s it’s okay to make yourself vulnerable. We want to encourage anyone who is struggling right now with the challenges that life throws at us to open up and find the support and help you need.
