Dublin s Q102 By Kelly O Sullivan (via Facebook) Whale watchers were left in awe as some humpback whales swam up to their boat just off the coast of Ireland last week.
Colin Barnes from Cork Whale Watch shared amazing footage of the 15m long whales circling the boat off West Cork, to the delight of all the passengers.
Posting the video on Facebook, Colin explained that it was unusual for humpback whales to swim so close and stay around the boats for long period of time. During the past 20 years of whale watching from the Holly Jo we ve had many visits to the boat from minke whales. Stop engines and wait in silence in an area where minke are seen and very often one, sometimes two, will come right up close to the boat and circle around and around, inspecting the hull from every angle, showing their inquisitive nature. They will sometimes stay for half an hour or more before moving on he explained.
