This update checks in on the progression of those laws, the most notable of which is that Colorado is set to become the third US state to pass a comprehensive privacy law as the Colorado Privacy Act is on the governor’s desk and is expected to be signed.
On the night of June 7, 2021, the Colorado House voted 57-7 to pass the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA). As we previously reported, the Colorado Senate unanimously passed the CPA on May 26.
The Colorado Privacy Act the Mile High State’s take on comprehensive CCPA-like data privacy legislation is expected to be signed into law imminently. While the bill will empower consumers to take greater control over their personal information, it will also erect new hurdles for marketers, who generally rely on the collection and sale of consumer data to track consumer behavior and serve targeted ads.
The Colorado Senate has passed the Colorado Privacy Act bill through the state Senate. The Colorado legislature closes on June 12, 2021, so the CPA’s fate is likely to be decided within the coming days.
