Yolanda Avila wins City Council re-election

Incumbent District 4 City Council Representative Yolanda Avila fended off a challenge from Harrison School District 2 Board of Education Vice President Regina English during the April 6 Municipal Election. Unofficial results from the Colorado Springs City Clerk’s Office show Avila winning with almost 62 percent of District 4’s votes. “It feels great,” said Avila during her watch party Tuesday evening, crediting her success to her campaign volunteers. “I just want to say that we worked really really hard. The people you see here have all contributed to the campaign. It was just a grassroots, very strategic effort to get me re-elected.” Avila earned nearly 62 percent of the District 4 vote according to unofficial results.

2,500 Colorado Springs voters will receive two ballots due to technical error COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) A technical error at the Colorado Springs City Clerk s Office will lead to 2,500 voters receiving two ballots instead of one. The City Clerk s Office asks those people to vote once, and shred the other ballot. They say if both are returned, only one ballot will count. We do have plenty of security guards in place within our system. Like I said, we flagged those. We know exactly who they are because of the unique identifiers for each voter, said Sarah Johnson, Colorado Springs City Clerk. So we will hand it on our site and ensure there are not two ballots counted for anyone.

As the race for six seats on the Colorado Springs City Council heats up, tens of thousands of dollars are already sloshing around the campaign coffers of the nearly two dozen candidates running in the April 6 elections.  The campaign donations show who has broad or limited support, illuminate potential coalitions among candidates who are giving to each other, and also show how much money some are willing to shell out of their own pockets to try and win a seat in city government.
