DENVER — This week, like many, I’m in a reflective mood. Tomorrow, March 13, will mark one year since most kids in Colorado were in “normal” school. The concept of “remote learning” first entered our lives. Few realized how long it would be before kids would be back in classrooms. Once schools opened, it was a new world, with masks and cohorts. We all sympathized with the Class of 2020, but didn’t realize the Class of 2021 would have it just as bad.

On Tuesday, the JeffCo Public Schools Board of Education is set to decide when high school and middle school students will return to five days a week of in-person learning. A copy of a letter signed by staff at Standley Lake High School and obtained by Denver7 called JeffCo’s Restart Plan a “massive failure.” A petition is also circulating calling for JeffCo to postpone a return to full in-person for secondary students until the fall.
