President Joe Biden, in one of his first acts of office, paused new leasing of drilling rights on federal lands. After former president Donald Trump dismantled regulations for the sake of energy dominance, Biden’s move along the path of energy transition put the US oil and gas sector on its back foot.

Larimer County commissioners extend O&G moratorium for five months – BizWest

FORT COLLINS The Larimer County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an extension of the county’s temporary ban on new applications for oil and gas operations for the next five months. The vote taken during the commissioners’ Tuesday afternoon meeting sets the moratorium on new drilling to expire on Sept. 15, while a related halt to new 1041 land-use applications was extended through Dec. 15. “1041” refers to a portion of Senate Bill 181, the sweeping energy production reforms that were passed into law in the summer of 2019. Under the law, local governments can add stricter regulations on oil and gas operations than the statewide level or implement their own reviews on drilling applications.

Colorado's Smallest County Makes a Big Push for Its Residents' Safety

With the signing of Senate Bill 181 in April 2019, Colorado s local governments were given a power they d never enjoyed before: the ability to restrict oil and gas operations within their borders, rather than be held to state guidelines. Two years later, the City and County of Broomfield is preparing to pass a set of holistic regulations for the industry and they re shaping up to be the most stringent regulations in Colorado, says Broomfield Mayor Patrick Quinn. Those regulations are just part of the county s wide-ranging, safety-minded agenda. While physically the smallest county in the state, Broomfield has been the site of some of Colorado s biggest health and safety moves by residents and public officials alike.
