Amazon Plan for Arvada Isn t Prime, Neighbor Group Warns

Amazon wants to build a distribution center in Arvada but the location may be less than prime. The tech company is working with Indianapolis-based developers Scannell Properties to finalize a site plan for an Amazon facility near Indiana Street and 66th Place, adjacent to Maple Valley Park, a city-owned open space property on the Ralston Creek Trail. The Amazon project, which has a target opening of August or September of 2022, would include an approximately 112,000-square-foot distribution center that would act as the last stop for packages before they re delivered to homes; it would also include more than 1,100 parking spaces. Amazon first set its sights on the area because of its proximity to hot spots within the company s customer base, according to Jill Marcotte, a managing director at Scannell. The project s proponents have highlighted the center s potential to create new jobs, and an estimate of just how many is coming soon, Marcotte adds.

Boulder Gave Green Light to Greenway Plans Without Public Comment

If activists had anything to say about it, the Boulder City Council would have withdrawn from the Rocky Mountain Greenway Project during its April 13 meeting. But activists didn t get a say in the matter, at least not then. The latest decision on the project was presented as an update, not a discussion item, because as Carl Castillo, the city s chief policy advisor, explained, The one thing we don t want.is for this to become a public hearing item. That quote comes from an email that the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, a longtime human and environmental rights organization based in Boulder, obtained through a records request. A thread of emails among Boulder City staff members discussing if and how they should allow the public to speak at the meeting culminates with that comment from Castillo.

Fair Elle Drops I m Sorry You Feel That Way

Ivory Circle s Connie Hong is introducing herself to Denver s music scene all over again and this time, she s taking even more risks than she did the first time. In late March, the singer-songwriter of the established Denver indie band launched a new project, releasing her first album as solo artist Fair Elle. The album, I m Sorry You Feel That Way, includes ten tracks exploring the process of putting your heart on the line, getting it broken and picking up the pieces. After numerous successes with Ivory Circle, Hong says she was excited to break into the solo-artist scene, debuting with a subdued album that combines electronic vibes, Hong s natural voice, layered harmonies and empty space. Fair Elle s sound may come as a surprise to Ivory Circle fans which, Hong says, was the point of all this.

Colorado s Smallest County Makes a Big Push for Its Residents Safety

With the signing of Senate Bill 181 in April 2019, Colorado s local governments were given a power they d never enjoyed before: the ability to restrict oil and gas operations within their borders, rather than be held to state guidelines. Two years later, the City and County of Broomfield is preparing to pass a set of holistic regulations for the industry and they re shaping up to be the most stringent regulations in Colorado, says Broomfield Mayor Patrick Quinn. Those regulations are just part of the county s wide-ranging, safety-minded agenda. While physically the smallest county in the state, Broomfield has been the site of some of Colorado s biggest health and safety moves by residents and public officials alike.
