Celebrate 10 years of Times New Viking s Dancer Equired

Ten years ago today, Times New Viking released  Dancer Equired on Merge Records. Instead of the fuzz-pop trio s typical four-track recording process, Beth Murphy, Adam Elliott and Jared Phillips visited Columbus legendary Musicol Recording, which resulted in TNV s most polished record yet (though, in retrospect, the lo-fi/hi-fi distinction all feels a bit overblown). After releases on Siltbreeze and Matador,  Dancer Equired is the band s only full-length on Merge, and today the label is offering the album at a 30% discount ($13.29 for this LP is a steal). The 14-song release is my favorite Times New Viking record, and the album cycle also produced my favorite TNV video, No Room to Live, which Columbus artists Brandon Reichard and Pelham Johnston made by adjusting the film s speed to 12 frames per second, then printing out every single frame (about 3,000) on 8.5-by-11-inch paper. While this magazine has long covered inequality, I recognized we needed to do something more substantial, something that delved deeper into the persistent and insidious divisions within our community. To accomplish this goal, I needed help and I’m grat

Clintonville Mystery House: The Curious Dwelling Gets Another Chance

GuidesArch CityHome & StyleDiningFeaturesWeddingsLegals The Clintonville Mystery House: New Life for the Curious Dwelling at Indianola and Tibet After decades of renovation and recent code compliance woes, the “strange, mystical” home in this Columbus neighborhood finally has a brighter future. Kathy Lynn Gray Maybe it’s the turrets on the upper floors, or the raised walkway to the garage, or the seemingly constant state of construction, but Bob Erickson’s house has always inspired wonder. Hence, the feeling of melancholy when  Columbus Monthly last talked with him in early 2018 and discovered his quirky curiosity in Clintonville had been declared a public nuisance by the city of Columbus. Its future seemed uncertain at best.
