The Franklin County Sheriff s Office confirmed Tuesday it is investigating the death of a female inmate who was found unresponsive at the Jackson Pike jail more than a week ago.
Fredreca Ford, 29, of the Near East Side, died on June 26, one day after being transported from the jail to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.
Ford had been in the jail a short time and was still in a holding cell in the booking area when deputies found her unconscious, Chief Deputy Rick Minerd told The Dispatch on Tuesday.
Although the cause of death won t be known until toxicology tests for the Franklin County Coroner s office are completed, five other female inmates fell ill on the same evening as Ford, and several of them admitted they ingested drugs, Minerd said.

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A fire at a hookah lounge in north Columbus Sunday remains under investigation.
According to the Columbus Fire Department, firefighters arrived at the Delfin Hookah Lounge on the 6300 block of Busch Boulevard at approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a fire.
The fire commander at the scene quickly escalated the call to a second alarm due to apartment buildings surrounding the lounge, the Columbus Division of Fire posted on social media.
The building sustained extensive fire damage to its roof, causing firefighters to battle the blaze from the outside.
Firefighters were hindered in extinguishing the fire due to construction voids and air ducts, where the fire spread to.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) This Fourth of July weekend, Ohioans are being asked to keep both safety and the law in mind, especially when it comes to fireworks.
“We want to remind people that the only legal fireworks are the four S’s, which are smoke, snakes, sparklers and snaps,” said Battalion Chief Steve Martin, with Columbus Division of Fire.
Battalion Chief Martin is advising residents to only use small trick and novelty fireworks and not the consumer grade types such as mortars, roman candles, or firecrackers, which are illegal in the state of Ohio.
“Most of the hospital visits for those types of firework or entertainment things are going to be burns to the hands or torso,” said Chief Martin.
