Two men were killed in separate shootings Saturday in Columbus as the city approaches the grim milestone of 100 homicides for the year.
As of Sunday, Columbus has now reached 98 homicides this year, far ahead of the 58 killings at this point in 2020. Last year a record deadly year in Columbus with 176 homicides it wasn t until Sept. 6 that the 98th homicide was reached.
Police have not yet identified suspects nor reported any arrests in either shooting.

Of those recruits, 20% are women, the highest percentage in the last three recruit classes.
Thirty percent of the class, or 13 recruits, classified themselves as minorities.
The previous two recruit classes, which began in June 2020 and December 2020, each had 35 recruits. In June 2020, the percentage of recruits who identified as minorities was about 8%. That percentage rose to 25.7% in December 2020.
Mayor Andrew J. Ginther has said he wants to double diversity in both Columbus police and fire recruit classes to improve diversity among the ranks.
Last week, 45 Columbus police recruits began their training and will graduate in January.
Among those recruits, the percentage of those who identified as non-white, female or both rose to 53%.
