We know you want to show your support to Coronado restaurants, especially while they are limited to offering only take-out service, but what to order?
To help you decide, the Coronado Chamber of Commerce asked 12 local restaurant owners to make two selections: 1)the must-try menu item for people ordering with them for the first time and 2) something a little more unusual for regulars who always default to their same favorite!
Weâll kick off the two restaurants that have opened since the last lockdown - Parakeet Cafe at 1134 Orange Avenue with its super-healthy, prettily-presented fare, and Serranoâs Coronado at 126 Orange Avenue with its extra-tasty Mexican street food and creative cocktails.
Sweet Soles has walked away with the top prize for Coronadoâs Best Holiday Retail Window Display!
The sophisticated design, best described as Christmas Couture, features a gold mannequin resplendent in a ballgown with an ivy velvet bodice and floor-length skirt that doubles as a light-studded Christmas tree. The details are exquisite - the red ribbon-sash at the waist, the glittering mask-tiara - and thatâs just the first window!
The second panel features a unique cluster of 500 ornaments strung on rustic twine reflecting the colors of the jewels winking in the sunlight at the highest point of the display - sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Embellished metallics add texture and flair.
First came Shop Small Saturday - the annual American Express and MainStreet tradition that shines a nationwide spotlight on independent retailers. Never have Coronado businesses needed your patronage more and it was an absolute delight to hear local retailers buzzing about all their happy customers - as Colette of Geppettoâs Toys marveled, âOur sales soared so much it felt like Christmas Eve!â
Then came the bad news - another lockdown. Although all Coronado retail will remain open at a 20% capacity throughout the next three-week period, shopkeepers know that foot traffic will be reduced by the lack of outdoor dining and the reduced workforce on the island. Fortunately another surge was on the way - and this time it was the positive kind!
