Black Works Studio Hyena Lonsdale – halfwheel

A term that has come into my vocabulary as of late is inflection point, that spot where the trend bends and changes direction. It’s come into usage with the pandemic, but it certainly has a fairly wide field where it is applicable. One of those would be blending trends in the cigar industry, and if you’ve been around long enough and paid enough attention, you’ve likely seen them. The rise of Ecuadorian tobacco, the return of Mexican tobacco, changes in common sizes of cigars and numerous other things all started as blips on a radar and eventually became genuine trends.

Caldwell s Lost & Found to Release Aged Cigars for Charity

Share Photos/Caldwell Cigar Co. A trio of aged, Dominican limited-editions, courtesy of the Lost & Found program, are expected to start reaching retailers at the end of the month. Lost & Found is a collaboration between Robert Caldwell, owner of Caldwell Cigar Co., Tony Bellato, owner of La Barba Cigar Ltd., and designer Jaclyn Sears. The program takes overstock that’s been “lost,” forgotten or unsold by out-of-business companies and releases the cigars to benefit a charity. The factories remain undisclosed and the anonymous cigars are repackaged under the name Lost & Found. These releases are to benefit Camillus House, a non-profit organization based in Miami, Florida, that provides housing, medical care and substance abuse treatment for the homeless.

Perla del Mar Corojo Corona Gorda – halfwheel

Release Date: November 2020 Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 The first adjective that comes to mind when I see the Perla del Mar Corojo Corona Gorda for the first time is rustic, due in large part to the combination of an old school-looking band and a box-press that a is very obviously rectangular instead of square. While silky smooth to the touch, the mocha brown wrapper is also almost totally devoid of any visible oil, and it is extremely soft when squeezed. The aroma from the wrapper is a combination of incredibly sweet cedar and leather, along with peanuts, milk chocolate, hay, tree bark, earth and vanilla beans. The cold draw brings flavors of distinct dark chocolate, cedar, leather horse tack, raisin sweetness, creamy hay and slight vegetal.

Supreme Leaf Corona Gorda – halfwheel

Release Date: Feb. 8, 2021 Number of Cigars Released: Regular Production Number of Cigars Smoked For Review: 3 Even with the somewhat thinner ring gauge, the wrapper itself has quite a bit of texture on it, which isn’t always obvious. I think that the aggressive box press probably helps to accentuate this feature as the cigar provides four defined panels. The aroma from the wrapper is medium-full and smells like many other AGNAORSA-made cigars before it. There’s a dominant mixture of red pepper and cocoa on top of some barnyard and acidity. The covered foot is a bit milder and provides leather, barnyard, sweet cocoa, creaminess and earthiness. Unlike the wrapper, the aroma from the foot is rather balanced. Cold draws have chocolate, creaminess, an artificial lime flavor, and some crackers.
