May 12—CORYDON — Charlestown won its first-ever Mid-Southern Conference championship Tuesday evening at Corydon Central. The Pirates won six of the 16 events en route to 155.5 points — 26 more than runner-up Silver Creek. Charlestown won four individual events. Corydon Central lead-off batter Jalen Fowler went 0-4 at the plate Friday night against South Central, but it wasn’t his bat that was utilized: it was his arm.
The sophomore twirler, nearly spinning out of his ball cap multiple times during his 4-1/3-inning, four-strikeout stint on the bump, limited visiting South Central to just two runs on four hits before leaving the game with a foot injury after one batter in the top of the fifth.
