Covid-19: Over 300 mosque and surau committee members screened in JB, six test positive

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department has carried out Covid-19 screenings on more than 300 mosque and surau committee members here, and found six positive cases. State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said there has been a rise in Covid-19 cases being reported in the community due to social and religious activities not following standard operating procedures (SOP). “The Health Department has taken proactive measures by carrying out surveillance on mosque and surau committee members in Johor, beginning within the Johor Baru district on Saturday (May 22). “The surveillance was carried out at Masjid At-Taqwa in Taman Kota Masai and Masjid Tan Sri Ainuddin Wahid in Taman Universiti involving 75 health workers, ” he said here on Monday (May 24).

Covid-19: Outbreak at Klang dialysis centre among 20 new clusters

Eight of the new clusters are outbreaks discovered at workplaces. One of them is the Industri Pengkalan Balak cluster in Melaka, which has so far confirmed 146 positive cases. The cluster involved workers of a factory at Pengkalan Balak in Alor Gajah who had to undergo a targeted screening exercise. A total of 641 individuals have been screened so far. The index case is a 51-year-old woman who developed symptoms on May 19, before testing positive for Covid-19 on May 24.

Covid-19: Sabah management committee to discuss on Sunday (May 23) if SOPs need to be amended, says Masidi

KOTA KINABALU: The state Covid-19 management committee will have a meeting on Sunday (May 23) to discuss if there is a need to amend existing SOPs to better combat the spread of the virus, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. Among the SOPs taking effect till June 7 are related to inter-district travel, operating time of the various types of businesses and service sectors, prohibition in holding of social events, capacity for premises, houses of worship as well as terms and conditions relating to sports and recreational events and competitions. He also said Sabah’s Covid-19 management and SOPs as per the state conditional movement control order is not affected by the tighter restrictions imposed in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.
