MURRIETA, CA A convicted felon accused of slamming into a hatchback sedan at a Hemet intersection while driving drunk, killing two women and seriously injuring a third, was charged Wednesday with two counts of second-degree murder and other offenses.
Jesus Ernesto Rios, 33, of Downey was arrested immediately after the crash Saturday on Florida Avenue that fatally injured 21-year-old Dane Adkins-Radford and Emily Hale, both 21 and of Hemet. Their friend, Alyssa Salas of Hemet, suffered life-threatening injuries.
Along with the murder counts, Rios is charged with felony driving under the influence and a sentence-enhancing great bodily injury allegation. He s being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and is slated to make his initial court appearance Thursday at the Banning Justice Center.

LOS ANGELES, CA KKK hoods, drawings of nooses or lynchings, strings of obscenities, racist and sexist diatribes all have become the toll of public service at Los Angeles City Hall in recent years. The obscenities and slurs have become so common at City Council meetings of late, they are met with a banal Thank You from the dias before moving on to city business.
However, in his return to the City Council after serving on the County Board of Supervisors, newly elected Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas signaled his frustration with commenters who routinely test the First-Amendment. On Tuesday, Mark Ridley-Thomas Tuesday chastised racist and sexist remarks by public speakers, which he said the governing body has had to hear for years.

LOS ANGELES, CA Los Angeles County reported less than 100 intensive care unit beds left to serve its 14 million residents Tuesday. For weeks, health officials had warned that when hospitals become overwhelmed, the region s coronavirus death toll will spike. And it did Tuesday. The county reported 86 new coronavirus deaths - the highest total since the summer surge. Still, hospitalizations are climbing, and health officials don t believe they ve peaked.
