A man has been hospitalised after allegedly being struck with an axe when he refused to hand over his poker machine payout ticket at a pub in Sydney’s west.
Police were called to the Commercial Hotel on Hassall Street, Parramatta just before 11am on Thursday following reports of a robbery.

Officers have been told a 37-year-old man was inside a bathroom at the pub when another man approached him and “demanded a poker machine payout ticket”.
When the patron refused, he was allegedly struck in the face with an axe and had his wallet stolen. Police said the man and a woman left the scene.

A civil penalty notice is being filed by the San Diego Development Services Department’s Code Enforcement Division over a remodel of a “public parking” area fronting 1964 Little St. after it was determined the unpermitted changes were within the public right of way.

Accomplishments noted in the budget include La Jolla Recreation Center basketball court resurfacing and replacement of water mains in the La Jolla Scenic Drive area. A space on Little Street in La Jolla that was once used as public parking has been redeveloped and is being used as private homeowner parking, leading to a complaint to the city of San Diego.
What was once an open gravel lot that some say was used as beach parking (Little Street is a few blocks from The Marine Room and its beach access) now has planters, cones and lights.
At issue is whether the space is city property or private property, or perhaps a bit of both. Those who used the makeshift parking lot say the area, which is between a house and the city street, is city property.

Ximena Aguilar was struck in the area of Washington Avenue and Little Street by a truck owned by Interstate Waste Services, according to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Belleville Police Chief Mark Minichini.
Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 1 p.m., according to police and the prosecutor.
No charges were filed. Police said the truck driver remained at the scene.
