Daniela Caputo s Destinations: Canadian Travels Part 3 - Road trip through Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, Elk Falls, Campbell River, and Victoria

After spending three wonderful days in Tofino, we were off to explore Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park and Elk Falls, on route to Campbell River. I can honestly say that Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park is high on my favorite parks list for this trip. We decided to take a hike to get a closer look at the upper falls before having a picnic in this spectacular forest. The hiking trail boarders the Little Qualicum River, where we could observe the crashing river rapids and the impressive upper waterfalls that cascades and plummets down the rocky gorge in such a picturesque and serene setting. After taking several great videos and pictures, we were ready for lunch. The facilities in this park include picnic tables, a picnic shelter, restrooms and fresh water.

A Life-Saving Partnership on Vancouver Island

A Life-Saving Partnership on Vancouver Island SHARE ON: Ascent Helicopter serving Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands, and the Sunshine Coast. “Time is your only enemy, it disappears very quickly and never gives you a second chance,” excerpt from The Aussie Expat: The Luckiest Man on Earth by Steve Douglas. An air ambulance partnership between BC Emergency Health Services (BC-EHS) and Ascent Helicopters is reducing the length of time it takes people to get medical help from hours to minutes. Lance Stephenson with BC-EHS said he has no doubt that the new helicopter will help save lives. “Let’s use Bamfield as an example or Zeballos, it takes us a fair amount of time to get out to the patient and takes us just as long to get back on a very rocky road, not a very comfortable transport for the patient,” said Stephenson. “If the patient has serious, traumatic injuries or even medical issues then moving them to the hospital takes sometimes six, seven hours.”

Thanks for saving his life : Man rescued at Little Qualicum Falls recovering in hospital

Rivers said, “It feels great,” to receive that message. “A lot of times we don’t hear how people are doing so it’s a pretty incredible feeling when people reach out like that.” Rivers, 28, of Parksville, was swamped by news media on Monday eager to hear how he risked his own life Saturday afternoon to save a stranger who fell off a log into the river, with a waterfall just 4.5 metres below him. The episode was captured in a dramatic video showing the wild conditions of the river and the danger involved in the high-risk rescue in Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.
