Kilkenny food and drink producers invited to join Food Academy Many producers have graduated through Food Academy to get their products market-ready and reach a nationwide audience Reporter: );   ); Local Enterprise Office Kilkenny is inviting food and drink producers from the county to join the hugely successful Food Academy programme and follow in the footsteps of local companies, such as Goatsbridge Trout, Mooncoin Beetroot, Highbank Orchards, the Little Mill Company, Bob and Joan’s Juicy Jams and The Fig Tree which have previously taken part. Now in its eighth year, Food Academy is a unique food business development programme between the 31 Local Enterprise Offices, including Local Enterprise Office Kilkenny, SuperValu and Bord Bia. Participants in the programme receive training in food safety, market research and branding, marketing, finance, sustainability and business development.

As its name suggests it was an outdoor curling pond in the days before the introduction of indoor curling. The long-defunct Montrose Curling Club originally played on the Mary Loch, at Little Mill on the outskirts of the town, on the Brechin road.  The Mary Loch was drained in the 1920s and there is no trace of it now. © Kim Cessford Indoor curling is the norm now but ponds like the Curlie in Montrose were once important places for recreation.

Jefferson man killed after car leaves road

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies and firefighters responded to a fatal crash March 31 along Brown Bridge Road after a car hydroplaned and struck a tree. Robert J. Phillips, 68, of Jefferson, was killed in the crash, which occurred around 12:45 p.m. near Little Mill Road. Deputies said Phillips was driving a Ford Crown Victoria eastbound along Browns Bridge and attempted to pass slower traffic when the car hydroplaned, and Phillips lost control. The car veered off the roadway, rotated and slammed into a large tree. First responders rushed Phillips to a local hospital where he later died. Deputies are now investigating the crash but said there were no preliminary indications that alcohol or drugs were a factor.
