Notre Dame survived. And advanced.
For Notre Dame, the No. 6 seed sent to Denver in the first round hosting the Quarterfinals at Arlotta Stadium, it was Wheaton Jackoboice who scored the goal-ahead goal with 1:19 remaining, and Morrison Mirer iced it late in a 10-8 win over Drexel on Saturday.
Jackoboice led Irish scorers with three goals, Mirer and Pat Kavanagh both scored twice, and Will Yorke added a goal and an assist. The Dragons’ Reid Bowering led all scorers with four goals, while Jack Mulcahy and Sean Donnelly both had a goal and an assist.
The Irish advance to play the winner of Sunday’s matchup between No. 3-seed Maryland vs. Vermont in College Park, Md. Drexel, the CAA champions, end their season 10-3.

Syracuse’s 7-5 regular season record is its worst since 2017, and its 2-4 conference record is its worst since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. Despite having the 24th-best record in Division I, the Orange’s strength of schedule which included six games against ACC teams, all seeded in the tournament pushed them into an unseeded tournament bid.
Since most teams played majority conference opponents, records weren’t as important as they were in most years. Selection committee chair Tim Leonard said the committee focused on the “eye test” more than typical selection criteria.

Syracuse, N.Y. The field of play did not provide a sanctuary for the Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team on Saturday.
SU head coach John Desko thought the Orange were ready to focus on lacrosse after a turbulent week.
Desko was wrong.
“I thought we had a really good week of practice,” Desko said. “We came out in the game and won some faceoffs, we competed. We had the early lead. We were all in the right frame of mind,” Desko said. “My hat’s off to Notre Dame, I thought they really played well. We competed in the second half but made a lot of mistakes. (We’re) obviously disappointed with the loss and the way we played the game.”
