Revamped Chinchilla Weir to entice more people outdoors

15 July 2021 Western Downs Regional Council is encouraging more people to head outdoors and explore the region’s fantastic recreational facilities, with a range of upgrades completed at Chinchilla Weir. Council partnered with the Australian Government to fast-track a $1.9 million revamp of the popular spot as part of its COVID-19 Recovery Package to secure and create jobs and enhance the liveability of the region. Council Spokesperson for Recreational Spaces and Cemeteries Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the upgrades had revitalised the facility and enhanced recreational opportunities for the region. “This project has delivered a revamped facility perfect for a weekend camping adventure or simply for a picnic lunch by the water, and we are proud to celebrate our natural environment and heritage,” Cr Tillman said.

To mark National Volunteers Week, Council has launched the online platform so the community can stay informed about the various volunteering opportunities available within Council. Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said this platform will be a great asset in encouraging our volunteers to remain active throughout our communities. “The Western Downs region has a large number of parks, galleries, and community facilities that thrive on the devotion and help of volunteers who put in countless hours to ensure our much-loved spaces are the best they can be for the wider community and visitors,” Cr Maguire said.

Date Time Major project to enhance tourism landmark in Miles Western Downs Regional Council has unveiled plans to reinvigorate one of the region’s most popular visitor destinations as part of its massive COVID-19 Recovery Package to secure and create jobs and boost the region’s liveability. The Miles Visitor Information Centre and Historical Village Museum entrance is receiving a makeover to enhance its presence and offer new opportunities to stop, visit and spend locally. Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Events, and Regional Promotion Councillor Kylie Bourne said the project would give the precinct a more vibrant, modern look with some interactive new features.
