Lake City man gets 10 years for drug, weapons in Gainesville
A Lake City man was sentenced Tuesday in Gainesville Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison on weapon and drug convictions following an investigation by a multiagency effort to stem gun violence.
Lascelles Ford Jr. in January pleaded guilty to possession of drugs with intent to distribute, possession of a gun to further drug trafficking and possession of a gun by a convicted felon, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported in a news release Friday.
Ford was arrested in April 2020 after an Alachua Police Department surveillance operation in a neighborhood after repeated complaints from residents.

Wyoming County sheriff s deputies are releasing the names of the two women killed in a crash in Gainesville on Tuesday night.
Deputies say Jacquelin Simpson, 83, and Jessie Button, 82, were pulling out of a pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic onto Route 19 when another car hit them around 4:30 p.m.
Officers tell
Spectrum News the driver of the other car was a 45-year-old woman. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
Plane lands on I-35 in Cooke County after reporting engine trouble

GAINESVILLE, Texas - Interstate 35 was shut down near Gainesville Tuesday night after a plane made an emergency landing.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the single-engine Cessna 150 landed on southbound I-35 around 11 p.m.
The pilot reported a rough-running engine and rolled the plane under a bridge, where it was struck by a truck, the FAA said.
There’s no word on the conditions of the two people who were on board the plane. It’s also not clear if anyone in the truck was hurt.
