Chris Walton, “Whatcha Say”
Since Chris Walton, the Boston-based singer, songwriter, and producer recorded an exclusive at-home performance with WERS 88.9FM this past month, and I ve been listening to his newest EP, Fade, on repeat. The second track on his EP, Whatcha Say, blends neo-soul, jazz, and funk with DIY and lo-fi effects to tell the story of a tumultuous breakup: It s always fun and games till you re the one to blame / It s all in what you say and what you don t. As layers of complex percussion, smooth, soulful keys, and jazz-influenced guitar rhythms build, Walton belts the end of the chorus, and the song erupts into a fuzzy, Hendrix-inspired guitar solo. Whatcha Say is a fantastic track about breakups on its own, but it sounds even better if you listen to the entire three-part, genre-bending love story told on Chris Walton s EP. -
Singer-composer-teacher and multi-instrumentalist David Thorne Scott immediately said “piano” when asked to name his main instrument. But in line right behind the keyboard are trumpet, flugelhorn, and electric bass. And ahead of them all is his voice.
Scott, who will be celebrating his 50th birthday as well as the release of his newest album “Thornewood” at a concert being streamed through ATAC Downtown Arts & Music (formerly Amazing Things) on April 13, is a jazz singer. A Nebraska native, he spoke about his career and his album from his home in Somerville.

I was listening to pop music on the radio – things like Chicago and Hall & Oates. But when I played trumpet in the high school jazz band, I got into swing music, and started listening to Bobby McFerr

Kaiti Jones â Weak Days
March 16, 2021
Kaiti Jones performs Weak Days live at the Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, MA, for a Front Row Boston socially-distant session. Jones is a natural songwriter and storyteller; her lyrics rooted in existential angst or failed romances that grow into retrospective anecdotes. I often write or finish songs years later, when I m able to look back with a new perspective and less pain, she explains. Jones s sophomore album Tossed furthered this practice and allowed her to confront daunting questions. It was produced by Daniel Radin (Lake Saint Daniel, Future Teens), who joins her on guitar during the session.
