Coldwater Solar awards community grants

Coldwater Solar awards community grants The Daily Reporter Apex Clean Energy and esaSolar, developers of a proposed 150 MW solar farm in Coldwater and Ovid townships. announced six Coldwater-area programs and organizations as the recipients of the first round of Coldwater Solar Community Grants. Receiving grants are: Sunrise Rotary Foundation’s Promise Scholarship, Coldwater High School Interact Club, Coldwater schools Lakeland Readers are Leaders program, Branch County Habitat for Humanity, Branch County District Library  and Corner Farmers Market.  While the 1,500-acre project is still in the planning stages, the companies launched the program earlier this year to support community organizations making an impact in the following areas: Building Healthy Communities, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, and Promoting Education.

The Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Foundation’s Promise Scholarship Program will receive a grant to help support Branch County students who are seeking education in healthcare or industrial trades programs. The Coldwater High School Interact Club will get a grant to help support their downtown mural project.

Wed, 12/23/2020 - 3:15pm (Photo courtesy Waldo County Technical Center) Waldo County Technical Center’s annual, “Tis the Season,” an event that provides students of WCTC with food, clothing, and toiletries before the holidays, has been a roaring success due to the incredible generosity of donors from the local community and beyond.  The Tech Center received almost $4,000 in gift cards and cash that will be either placed directly in the hands of students in need or used to purchase specific items for the teens. Countless bags and boxes of coats, hats, boots and other clothing were also donated and quickly sent home with students.

The teachers are also great because they are patient. I did not really know English when I first went there, but with their help, I slowly learned.” Adelite just completed her senior year at Pan Am, as it’s affectionately called. She was born in Kigali, Rwanda, and moved with her family to Niger when she was just seven years old after her father got a new job.
