Returnal update 1.3.4 has just been rolled out by developer Housemarque after yesterday’s 1.3.3 patch has been pulled.
Yesterday, the developer deployed a new update for Returnal, but shortly after its release, the patch was pulled and the game version was reverted to 1.3.1. Apparently, various users were presented with a CE-100028-1 error after applying the 1.3.3 patch.
On Twitter, Housemarque advised owners of the game to don’t start the game until a new update has been made available. In addition, all users affected by the CE-100028-1 are required to re-download Returnal on PlayStation 5. On the official PlayStation support site, Sony writes that the CE-100028-1 error is caused by the internal SSD not having enough free space, although this clearly isn t the case here. Unfortunately, the error has resulted in save data getting corrupted for Returnal players.
Returnal’s First Post-Launch Update Improves Stability, But Will Kill Your Current Run May 5, 2021 14:56 EDT
The first post-launch patch for Returnal has arrived, but it comes with a bit of a caveat. As many have noted/complained Returnal does not let you save in the middle of a run, which in many cases can last a couple hours or more. In order to get around this restriction, many are putting Returnal in Rest Mode mid-way through runs as a crude save of sorts, but if the new update downloads while the game is in Rest Mode that run will be wiped by a reset. Housemarque is recommending players wanting to keep their run via Rest Mode turn off auto-updates.

Returnal’s 4K Image is Upscaled from 1080p, Performance Mostly 60fps With Some Drops Apr 30, 2021 12:30 EDT
Housemarque’s Returnal drops today, and as one of the first major third-party PS5 exclusives, many are understandably curious about how it pushes the hardware. Well, the tech-heads at Digital Foundry put the game through its paces, and it seems like the game pushes PS5 hardware quite hard. You can check out the full video below, provided you have 20 minutes to spare.
Returnal throws a lot at the player and targets 60fps, but that comes at the cost of image quality. While Returnal technically runs at dynamic 4K, a lot of techniques are used to get there. According to DF, Returnal’s native resolution is only around 1080p. Housemarque says they then used temporal upsampling to get to 1440p and then checkerboard rendering to get to 4K – the effect of this double upsampling is a game that can look a bit grainy at times, though it s still described as visually rich by
