While this restaurant is starting to see sales rebound from the COVID-19 crisis, getting employees to back work is presenting a new challenge.
âOne day, we have 10 employees. The next day, we have one,â said general manager Fathima Dickerson.
Dickerson is working overtime as she struggles to find staff.
âI know how to do multiple things all at once and thatâs for survival,â she said.
According to the National Restaurant Association, 25% of restaurants recently reported recruitment and retention of workers as their top challenges with the reasons ranging from jobless benefits to safety concerns.

âOur mission is to provide services to lower income, underserved, ethnic populations,â he said.
Since the vaccines became available, his team at Salud Family Health Centers has administered about 70,000 COVID-19 shots.
They were planning on giving out 1,000 Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine shots next week. That plan is in limbo now after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised Americans to pause using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, with authorities investigating health concerns tied to the J&J shot, including blood clots.

With 10 trucks and dozens of workers making hundreds of moves a month, Local Moving, a moving and storage company, uses a lot of gas. And with gas prices rising, staff is now on edge.
âItâs a little concerning when we havenât even head into summer yet, into our most high traffic time,â said owner Joseph Juanda.
According to American Automobile Association, the national average gas prices have increased 30 cents in the last month.
For Local Moving, that number is much more because of the fueling service they use to fill up their trucks.

Starting a new life in a new country can be difficult and Ala Shamam knows the struggles.
âItâs hard to come to a country where you donât speak their language, you donât know what they are thinking,â she said.
Shamam immigrated from North Sudan to the United States a few years ago. She is now an expanded functions dental assistant and offering her services at Project Worthmore, a nonprofit which has served Coloradoâs refugee population for the past 10 years.
