Plans for major flood alleviation works between Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall to go before Council

PLANS for the next step of a major flood alleviation scheme will go before Leeds city councillors for final approval next week. This part of the scheme, for the section running between Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall, is set to include a flood storage reservoir, walls, sheet piling, earth bunds and scour protection. The work is a long term project, which follows severe flooding along the River Aire following Boxing Day 2015. Phase one of the scheme, which stretches from Leeds City Centre to Woodlesford, was finished in 2017. Phase two of the scheme is split into two “steps”. Step one – which runs from Newlay Bridge to Leeds City Centre – was approved in June 2019. The latest part of the scheme is for the Apperley Bridge-to-Kirkstall section, known as Step two.

Plans for 10 new homes on the edge of this Herefordshire village

THERE are plans to build 10 new homes in a Herefordshire village. Plans have been submitted to Herefordshire Council s planning department for 10 new homes on agricultural land to the north of Boarsfield in Lugg Green Road, Kingsland. Developers are hoping to gain permission to build a mix of two, three, and four bedroom houses on the site. If approved, the new homes will be constructed in red brick and timber boards with natural slate roofing and will include parking for up to 31 cars. A previous scheme for 10 homes at the site was refused planning permission because the site is outside of the settlement boundary in conflict with the housing policies in the Core Strategy and neighbourhood development plan, the proposals cause harm to the landscape character of the village and its setting, and the council were unable to carry out a positive HRA for the site in the context of the failing conservation status of the River Wye SAC (sub Lugg sub catchment).

New showroom plans for The Motoring Team in Chesham

The new build is “particularly for the more expensive cars”, according to a planning statement. Permission to change the site from a public house (The Wild Rover) to a ‘car sales area’ was granted in 2016. It proposed opening hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, with the same hours on Saturdays. Sunday and Bank Holiday hours will be 11am-4pm. The site is also within an area at risk of flooding, according to council documents. However, “drainage measures were installed as previously agreed with the council and these remain”.
