Burley Parish Council investigating ways to challenge green belt homes decision

BURLEY Parish Council is investigating whether options exist to challenge the decision of the Secretary of State to allow planning permission for 500 homes at Sun Lane in the village. The Council met on Tuesday to discuss its response to the decision to allow building on the green belt land. A spokesperson for the Council said: “Burley Parish Council were saddened to hear the announcement from the Secretary of State on the March 3 announcing his decision to approve the building of 500 homes to the west of the village. “Planning permission was first raised back in 2016 and after a Public Inquiry in 2019, the Secretary of State initially over turned Bradford Council’s planning approval. A big part of the debate at the meeting was concerning the city council s response to Wiltshire Council s Local Plan Review - specifically, whether or not it should ask Wiltshire Council to safeguard land that could be used for a future bypass route.

AN MP who said he did “everything humanly possible” to stop hundreds of homes being built on greenbelt in Burley-in-Wharfedale has branded the development “an act of vandalism” after the final attempt to stop it going ahead failed. The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick yesterday confirmed that planning permission has been granted for 500 homes and a new primary school to the west of Burley-in-Wharfedale at Sun Lane. Shipley MP Philip Davies opposed the development since its initial application and said “the blame for this lays firmly with Bradford Council.” Mr Davies said: “The fact the Secretary of State initially blocked this development shows - in my view - that was his clear personal view. The problem is that it seems he was unable to find a watertight legal case for doing so, caused largely by the fact - as he puts in his decision - that Bradford Council had designated Burley-in-Wharfedale as
