A TAUNTON who admits he s not a good swimmer, rescued an elderly man who had fallen in to the town s River Tone. Paul Markham, widely known as Sez, saved the man s life by jumping into the fast flowing river between Bathpool Bridge and the Obridge Viaduct. Paul, 55, was walking his Rottweiler Gerrard when he spotted a woman frantically waving her arms and shouting for help. He said the woman, Karen Gower, screamed: He s gone in. I went down to the bank and saw the guy in the water, said Paul. The current was drawing him under and then he was coming up again.
Karen Gower, who jointly saved the life of a man who had fallen in the River Tone, in Taunton TWO passers by saved the life of an elderly man after he fell into the River Tone in Taunton. Karen Gower and Sez didn t hesitate to dive into the freezing water after spotting the man drifting downstream. The managed to haul him out of the water unconscious and then resuscitated him before the emergency services arrived on the scene. The drama unfolded as Karen, 58, and her son walked along the river halfway between Bathpool Bridge and the Obridge Viaduct shortly after 2pm yesterday (Thursday).
