To the editor:
At a meeting sponsored by the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce in late 2019, held in Houghton, I asked Rep. Jack Bergman if our elected officials should tell the truth to their constituents. Initially, he though the question was a joke, but after I assured him it was not, he said. “Yes, but it depends on the what facts you are using.”
If that is the case, then what facts set is he using to publicly recognize President-elect Joe Biden as our next president, and why did he sign on to a Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results in states, including Michigan?
Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau
Keweenaw Chevrolet BUICK GMC, the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce and Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCVB) are rallying community members to support local restaurants and bars through a series of “cash mobs” this holiday season. The event organizers have launched the Keweenaw’s 12 Days of Christmas to assist struggling businesses and plan to give away $2,000 in Keweenaw Cash to incentive local support.
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 12 and running through Wednesday, Dec. 23, the public will be encouraged to order carryout or purchase gift certificates at a different local restaurant or bar each day. The businesses will be randomly selected on Friday, Dec. 11 at the Keweenaw Chevrolet dealership in Houghton at noon and live streamed on the Chamber’s and KCVB’s Facebook pages. Participating shoppers will be entered to win a $500 Keweenaw Cash gift certificate redeemable at more than 300 Keweenaw businesses.
Keweenaw Economic Development Association
In an effort to not let the COVID pandemic stifle the futures of our youth, the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance (KEDA) is continuing its efforts to raise funds to support students who are looking to pursue career technical education after high school. Normally, this silent auction is part of the annual Holiday Hoopla held jointly with the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce and Keweenaw Young Professionals. With the pandemic curtailing the 2020 Holiday Hoopla gathering, the silent auction is going virtual.
Mark your calendar and join us for an online Silent Auction on Wednesday, Dec. 9 through Dec. 14 to benefit the PHF/KEDA Career and Technical Educational Scholarship program. The online auction can be accessed at https://www.biddingowl.com/CTESCHOLARSHIPS.
