Teachers, parents take to sidewalks in west end

Dozens of teachers and parents took to the sidewalks of NDG with flags, whistles and outrage last week as educators at several public schools demonstrated their anger and frustration with the provincial government over lack of a contract. More than two dozen teachers demonstrated on Cavendish Blvd next to St. Monica School with the stereo blasting “We’re not gonna take it” as they waved banners and thanked passersby who offered enthusiastic honks and thumbs up on their late morning commute through NDG. Montreal Teachers Association representative Leighton Jacobs told The Suburban that teachers are fed up waiting for a contract, adding that members are suffering as repeated pleas for smaller class sizes and increase resources for special needs students continue to go unanswered.

CSL presents mobility proposals at ARTM hearings

The City of Côte St. Luc, represented by Mayor Mitchell Brownstein and Councillor Dida Berku, presented the city s brief on mobility in the Namur-De La Savane area during Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain hearings on a 2021-2030 Montreal transit plan. CSL has united with the City of Montreal, Town of Mount Royal, and the boroughs of Côte des Neiges-NDG and St. Laurent to call for a transit plan for the area, where there is already traffic congestion and several development projects are planned or underway, including the Hippodrome housing development west of Décarie and the massive Royalmount project.

St. Laurent FIRST ELECTRIC DE-ICING TRUCK UNVEILED: Aéro Mag, a St. Laurent-based aircraft de-icing company, held a ceremony Thursday at their Trudeau Airport facility to unveil the “world’s first electrically powered aircraft de-icing truck.” A company statement says the truck will “help reduce the company’s environmental footprint by significantly reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.The new truck was designed and manufactured by The Vestergaard Company, “in close collaboration with the Aéro Mag team. “This electrically powered de-icing truck demonstrates Aéro Mag’s ongoing commitment to safety, operational efficiency, innovation and environmental protection,” says the company statement.“Today is a great day for us,” stated Mario Lépine, President of Aéro Mag. “The commissioning of this first electrically powered de-icing truck is perfectly in line with our continuous improvement program and follows
