Burglars stole a quad in a failed attempt to evade pursuing Gardaí following a botched burglary in rural Co. Cavan early yesterday morning (Wednesday, May 19), according to An Garda Síochána.
The incident resulted in three people being arrested by Gardaí – with the help of vigilant locals – following dramatic scenes in the “Breffni County”.
Providing an account of what occurred yesterday and how the burglars were apprehended, Gardaí based in the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division explained:
“The Gardaí in Bailieboro have arrested three people following the burglary of a premises in Lisgrey area of Virginia.

Gardaí and fire services in Co. Cavan attended the scene after a milk tanker overturned and left the road between Virginia and Bailieborough.
The incident took place earlier today (Sunday, May 9) in the area of Carrickgorman, resulting in the road being closed while emergency crews were on the scene.
Cavan Monaghan Garda Division had taken to social media to advise motorists to take an alternative route.
Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
Gardaí later confirmed that the R178 road had reopened to traffic in both directions.
Fire crews from Bailieborough and Virginia were also in attendance with Gardaí.
Figures analysed by the
Irish Independent show that the Dublin City Council (DCC) area was highest for five common crimes; drugs, thefts, assaults, public order and possession of weapons.
Outside of the capital, instances of these crime groups were high in Waterford, Cork and Louth, where gardaí have had significant successes in targeting two feuding criminal gangs in Drogheda.
While most serious crime categories have decreased as a result of restrictions introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, some offences increased in 2020.
In particular, drugs and weapons crimes have risen and, while assaults have dropped overall, attacks on women have not dropped as sharply compared to assaults on men.
