Gardai say a planned Cross Border Joint Agency Task Force Operation tackling rural crime was conducted along border counties today involving high visibility checkpoints and patrols on both sides of the border with gardai and the PSNI working in a coordinated fashion.
During the operation Gardaí seized suspected cannabis herb valued at €16,500 and a quantity of suspected stolen property worth approximately €4,000. One man was arrested and charged in connection with this seizure and has appeared before Cavan District Court.
Two people were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs with a quantity of cannabis seized in both cases.
This Cross Border Joint Agency Task Force operation included collaboration and cooperation with the PSNI, the Garda Armed Support Unit, and Gardaí from the Louth, Cavan/Monaghan, Sligo/Leitrim, and Donegal divisions.

Officers across Fermanagh worked alongside their An Garda Síochána colleagues, in this latest operation which spanned the Border Districts, with officers from Neighbourhood, Local Policing Teams and Tactical Support Groups. A PSNI spokesman said: Over the course of the operation, officers from Neighbourhood and Local Policing Teams and Tactical Support Groups across Fermanagh and Omagh carried out 109 authorised vehicle check points and conducted 78 roadside breath tests – pleased to report all were negative.

A STUDENT from Derrylin who tested positive for cannabis, after her car was detected speeding on the N3 near Butlersbridge, was given a four year driving ban when found guilty of drug driving Cavan District Court has heard.
Naoise Maguire aged 19, from Pine Brooke, Derrylin, pleaded not guilty to driving while under the influence of an intoxicant at Drumahork, Butlersbridge on April 24 last year.
The court was told that Maguire’s VW Golf car was detected travelling at 140km/h in a 100km/h zone at Tullybuck on the N3.
When tested the reading was positive for cannabis, Judge Deirdre Gearty was told.
