Court records: Money disputes before father killed

KALAMAZOO A 82-year-old man found murdered in his Portage home last month sustained extensive head trauma, court documents show.
Authorities say Dr. Thomas Aye, a retired oral surgeon and native of Holland, was killed July 24 in the home on Glencove Court off of Swan Creek Drive. His son Scott Sterffy has been charged with his murder.
A sworn statement from detectives filed with the Kalamazoo County Court, called a probable cause affidavit, says that Aye’s daughter went to check on him July 25 because he hadn’t met her as planned and wasn’t answering her calls. When she went to his home, she found him lying in a hallway with head injuries so severe that she couldn’t recognize him at first. She called 911.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â Kalamazoo community members and city officials gathered outside of the Kalamazoo County Courthouse following the guilty verdicts in the murder trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin.
The group of activists started gathering around 6 p.m. on Tuesday along with the Kalamazoo Mayor, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Police Chief, Assistant Police Chief and two city commissioners.

KALAMAZOO, MI – Protesters peacefully marched through downtown Kalamazoo chanting “Black Lives Matter” on Friday night.
Approximately 80 people gathered at 7:30 p.m., April 16, in front of the Kalamazoo County Courthouse, five days after Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a white police officer during a traffic stop April 11, in suburban Minneapolis.
“We are so tired,” Ryan Singleton (who goes by King Ryan) said. “We are mourning, and you can’t tell us how to mourn. We are mourning to be Black in America and to be constantly be in a state of mourning.”
